2027 BIFHSGO Memberships on Sale!

New BIFHSGO Bundle Available
BIFHSGO Bundles were created to improve access to past presentations through a curated index built around particular themes. It is one of several perks that members receive throughout the year and we look forward to expanding the bundle section of the website over the next year.
This month, we are pleased to launch BIFHSGO’s Military Stories & Records bundle. It includes 9 talks related to the theme of military service presented between 2021 & 2026. They cover “How To” research military service records while others honour and recognize family members who served both in Canada and in the UK. Check out Ken McKinlay’s talk “Where are My Military Records?” where he explored where to find a wide range of records, including attestation papers, service files, and medal cards. In 2023, BIFHSGO’s military expert Glenn Wright reviewed resources for servicemen in one of the most significant battles of the First World War in his talk “Canadians on Vimy Ridge, April 1917: Resources and Research”. These talks are on the BIFHSGO website under the Member's Area.
New Co-ordinator for BIFHSGO’s DNA Special Interest Group (SIG)
The DNA SIG is pleased to welcome a new coordinator. Bruce Beanlands has succeeded Susan Courage, who led the group for the past 10 years. We extend our sincere thanks to Susan for her dedication, leadership, and persistence in building and sustaining the SIG over the years, and we are delighted that she will continue to participate as a member.
DNA has become an important tool in the genealogist's toolbox, helping researchers break through long-standing brick walls where traditional research has reached a dead end, while also providing evidence to support—or challenge—documentary research.
Plans are underway to resume meetings this fall, and details will be announced once they are finalized. Anyone with an interest in genetic genealogy is welcome to join the DNA Interest Group. To be added to the mailing list or to learn more, please contact Bruce at dna_sig@bifhsgo.ca
Improved Searchability for the No. 1 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station Database

BIFHSGO is pleased to announce that our database of soldiers who died at No. 1 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station is now completely searchable through the World War I UK website, The Long, Long Trail. The move allows for searching of all fields in the database. We would like to express our thanks to Chris Baker, webmaster of the The Long, Long Trail and to the dedicated BIFHSGO volunteers who have transcribed this information or written fully researched biographies for many of the soldiers. |

Anglo-Celtic RootsThe Fall 2026 ACR is on the website for members to view. Paul Cripwell is the new President of BIFHSGO and is passing the ACR editor role to Barbara Tose and Carolyn Brown. The ACR editors await your stories, great or small. The submission deadline for the Winter edition is 22 October 2026. Assistance with writing and editing is available.
